Meet our Staff

Our Staff

The Staff of Our Lady of the Gulf parish consists of a Pastor, two Permanent Deacons, a Pastoral Associate and an Executive Secretary.. Our Staff, with its many gifts and talents, serve the needs of the parishioners of Our Lady of the Gulf parish. With years of experience in ministry, they are committed to making the parish a welcoming and user-friendly parish.

 

Staff Bio:























(Fr. Michael Tracey, Pastor):
Fr. Tracey, a native of Ireland, was ordained a priest in 1972. He has served in various parishes in south Mississippi including Biloxi, Gulfport and Hattiesburg. He also served as Youth Director and Director of RENEW for the Diocese of Biloxi. He became pastor of OLG in September 2010.
He wrote a regular column called "Rambling Rhetoric" for "Mississippi Today" from 1976 to 1982. He began writing a regular column called "Traveling Companion" for "Gulf Pine Catholic," newspaper of the Diocese of Biloxi, in 1988. This column continues today.  Fr. Tracey has written several articles for various national Catholic newspapers and magazines including National Catholic Reporter, America magazine and The Priest magazine. He published  "Walking Shoes: A Soul Journey," in 2002. It is a reflection on elements in life’s journey. . He published  "May the Wind be at your Back - Reflections in the shade" in 2003.  His latest book, published in 2006, is titled "She was no Lady - A personal journey through Hurricane Katrina"




















(Deacon Mike Harris):

Deacon Mike, the second of five boys, was born at Fort Sill, OK while my dad was serving in the Army. Two years later we moved to Baton Rouge, LA. He attended Our Lady of Mercy and St. Thomas More Elementary Schools and a public High School He ran track from the 8th to 12th grades and also was an Eagle Scout. He graduated from the US Naval Academy in 1973 with a BS in Ocean Engineering and served on nuclear submarines. He met my wife Mary (a Navy Nurse at the time) in Charleston, SC and they got married and have 4 children, 2 boys and 2 girls. Their children attended Holy Trinity, OLA and St.Stanislaus.They are all married and he and Mary have 4 grandsons so far. In 1980, Deacon Mike got out of the Navy and began working at the Naval Research Laboratory at the Stennis Space Center as a civilian, and received a Masters in OE and my Professional Engineers Licenses in 1984. At the lab he worked as an Engineer, Program Manager and Supervisor of a Mapping and Charting Branch. He retired from the lab in 2009. He applied for the Deaconate Program in 2003, and was ordained in June of 2009. Presently he works with RCIA, RCIC and is involved in various other ministries at Our Lady of the Gulf parish.















(Deacon Eddie Renz):

Deacon Eddie, a native of New Orleans, Louisiana, was raised in Kenner, La and attended Catholic High School in the River Parishes. He served in the Air Force Reserves from 1970 till 1976. He is the oldest of five children, married to Karen Martin of Norco, Louisiana for 27 years and together have six children, four grandchildren with two on the way. They moved to Bay St. Louis in 1994 when they realized how much they loved the Mississippi Gulf Coast. He worked at the Shell Norco Refinery for 21 years as a training coordinator and left there after moving to Bay St. Louis to open a Christian Bookstore. He now work for Jacobs Technology at Stennis Space Center as an Environmental Specialist. Both he and his wife own and operate Bay Arts Center where Karen teaches kids and adults the skills of drawing and painting. Ordained in 2009 as a Permanent Deacon for the Diocese of Biloxi he enjoys serving God’s people in various ministries through teaching, preaching, sacramental preparation and annulment counseling.







(Mrs. Kathleen LeBlanc: Pastoral Associate):

Kathleen McGinity LeBlanc, a native of Bay St. Louis and lifelong member of Our Lady of the Gulf, has been Pastoral Associate of the parish since September 2003. She is married to William LeBlanc and together they share 7 adult children and 7 grandchildren. Before becoming Pastoral Associate, she completed the 3-year course, New Wine, offered by the Diocese of Biloxi to prepare for Lay Ministry. Her position is responsible for the faith formation of elementary though high school, including preparation for the Sacraments and the many ministries in the parish .

 





(Mrs. Jo Sharp: Executive Secretary):

Jo Richey Sharp is a native of Louisiana but has lived in Bay St. Louis since 1995.She converted to Catholicism in Diocese of Biloxi. Jo currently serves as an advisory member of OLG St. Vincent dePaul Conference. Jo and her husband, Calvin, have been married since 1987 and have two children; Anna is a 2007 graduate of OLA and currently attends USM in Hattiesburg and James is currently a student at Holy Trinity Catholic School. The Sharp family is proud to call Our Lady of the Gulf as their home parish and look forward to the renewed growth of OLG and the city of Bay St. Louis.
